Reflection

November 2023

As the year draws to a close I thought this a good time to reflect on the last few months and tell you what I’m up to next.

It’s been a few months since my solo show and it’s hard getting straight back into painting after such an undertaking. There was so much to arrange and sort out apart from the framing and hanging. This was a first for me and I learned so much.

I literally had no idea how much work was involved but I’ll know for next time! I thank all those who helped to make the pop-up show  a great success and I’m so grateful to all those who came to support me and view my work whilst raising a healthy amount for charity at the same time.  It was was lovely to meet everyone who came and have the time to talk with them about my work. Daunting but rewarding, I found myself explaining my process and where my ideas had come from , answering questions and helping viewers understand the story of my ´Dreamsˋ.

So where next?

I’ve been sketching over the summer where I enjoyed being outside exploring colour and texture in natural forms with very limited resources. I’m now making notes and sketches for a new Body of Work. This is no easy task deciding on where I’m going with this so I can’t share anything yet. I must be patient as ideas gradually emerge. To get me back in the groove I’ve taken a Still Life course which has been a total challenge and way out of my comfort zone. This is a good thing and I loved it. So much so that I want to take it further. Contemporary Still Life telling a story with a little bit of mystery.  I have one finished piece in my own style which will go on my website shortly. I hope you like it. It’s inspiring my next series~thinking about A Sense of Being. I’ll keep you posted!

In the meanwhile I’m busy preparing sketches and gathering resources for a new commission which is super exciting. I can’t wait to get started. The gallery which had represented me in Newcastle for many years has sadly closed down so this will drive me to seek representation elsewhere. My focus for 2024…

Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog and also to look at my website. It is always much appreciated. If you need help with anything it have more questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Annie
